What is a 16-month calendar?
A 16-month calendar combines a full 12-month year with four additional months, often beginning in September.
Why a calendar has 16 months
A typical 16-month calendar begins in September and continues through December of the following year. The extra four months let students, families, and teachers begin planning at the start of an academic year without buying a new calendar in January.
Some publishers use a different starting month, so check the date range rather than relying only on the 16-month label.
When it is useful
- Planning across the school year and the following summer.
- Recording fall events before a January-to-December calendar begins.
- Keeping one continuous calendar through the year-end transition.
